Ways to minimize bathroom remodel costs

June 24th, 2008

The first thing that you are to do as soon as you’ve decided to remodel the bathroom is to go over your budgets. When you try to determine the cost of a complete bathroom renovation, the style, materials, products, finishes and extras you select can seriously affect the overall sum. And sometimes it turns out that doing an all out bathroom remodel is far beyond your budget. The following article gives a set of tips that can help you give the bathroom a fresh look without blowing up your bank account.

So if you can’t afford a complete bathroom renovation or are interested in a simple facelift, there are many easy and affordable options, for instance updating with accessories or paint:

1.      First of all, the simplest and cheapest way to give a bathroom a small upgrade is with a stylish shower curtain, matching rug, or a set of new towels. Even if you don’t feel like changing the entire bathroom color scheme, you can still create a flesh bathroom decor just by changing or adding bright-color or contrast-color accessories.

Consider getting other small things that can help to create a new bathroom decor, for instance, change the color and/or style of your wastebasket, soap dispenser and tissue holder. Use some design tricks: fill a vase, bowl or basket with fresh flowers or dried flavored flower petals, or small decorative toiletries; put pretty colored hand-made soaps and flavored candles all round the bathroom. Such simple and creative solutions can easily give an old dull bathroom decor a whole new appearance and feel.

Large frameless mirrors that used to be once very popular in bathrooms have already become a survival of times past. If you have such a mirror, you can create a new look by framing it that doesn’t require a substantial outlay of cash. It’s a cheap but very effective solution: just find a molding you like at any local home improvement store, then cut it to fit around your mirror and put it all together. You can even experiment with paint and other accessories, for example, brushing silver or gold highlights on the molding or artificially wearing it out.

2.      Painting a room is an ideal way for a bathroom renovation. You don’t even have to paint the existing tiles or flooring in the matching color, better use complimentary or contrast colors. It’s a good idea to choose bright colors for bathrooms because they can make a small space look visually larger.

On the whole, the success of your bathroom renovation project that implies minimizing the expenditure depends greatly on the creativity and industriousness you apply.
