Give your bathroom design a little of Feng Shui

Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese philosophy – or art – of positioning objects, furniture and even buildings based on the patterns of yin and yang. The literal translation of Feng Shui is “wind and water.” Specialists are convinced that Feng Shui techniques can make your bathroom more conducive to the flow of positive energy that’s why Feng Shui is one of the top-list bathroom trends now.

No doubt, that the bathroom is definitely the room that comes to your mind when you think of water. But the water in the bathroom isn’t the same as the water element. Feng Shui experts strongly recommend having the water element, such as a water fountain or aquarium, in other areas of the house for the energy balance. The following Feng Shui information reflects on the latest bathroom trends and can be applied to existing bathrooms as well as to homes that are being designed.

1.      Start from a Space Clearing procedure. It’s first and most important step in practicing Feng Shui. According to the Feng Shui philosophy every environment has accumulated negative energy that needs to be eliminated and this ritual clearing will consequently make all other cures more effective.

2.      Due to its layout and functions bathrooms have a strongly draining effect on healthy energy in the home. That’s why it’s crucial to keep bathroom doors closed all the time. Also keep toilet lids down if they are not in use.

3.      The use of mirrors s not only one of the most popular bathroom trends but also a well-known Feng Shui technique. Suspended mirrors in the bathroom help to speed up the flow of positive energy and visually give a spacious feeling to a small room. Never place mirrors where they reflect into each other because positive energy becomes trapped between them and cannot circulate.

4.      All bathroom windows should be opened daily. Let the sunlight stream into the room and fill it as much as possible. Besides fresh air and sunlight are the best defenses against mold, and stale that usually accumulate negative energy.

5.      If your new bathroom design doesn’t stipulate putting in windows, reconsider it. As bathrooms with no windows are very problematic in feng shui because it is difficult to avoid a build-up of stagnant negative energy. In case when putting in windows spoils the whole design picture make sure to supply bright, even lighting and install a quiet exhaust fan to use it daily. Hanging a wind chime or faceted crystal in an appropriate place in the bathroom will also make it easier to move and disperse energy.

6.      Healthy, leafy plants should become an inherent part of your bathroom design since they help to absorb moisture and minimize the problem of stagnant energy.

7.      Putting family pictures in the bathroom is not only a sign of bad taste but also a “no-no” in Feng Shui.
